PLACES OF INTEREST
SEA BEACH at puri is the best golden beach in the whole country.many sea side hotels are situated here for decades.as per my knowledge as a localite the beach of puri has two parts where you can see more peoples.one part is near the swargadwar where most tourists from inside the country gathers.in this part you can meet many tourists from different states in india.and the other part is near the railway station.here you can see the fishermen and their culture along with tourists from around the world.the two part is of the same beach.i mean you can go from one part to another by walking on the beach.i suggest all tourists to experience the both part.because you can totally have two different experience i promise.at one part you will experience the fishermen cultures and on the other part you will see the culture of tourists from other states of india mostly the bangalis.here you can also find a market of jewellaries made up of sea animals and traditional cloth market.
the beach goes festive in occasions like kartik purnima"full moon day"when hindus gather here in the morning to take a holy deep and to pray the holy sea god.you can also see the puri beach festival in the february month which is perfect to experience the indian culture.in the puri beach festival dancers from different part of india come to perform..
ISOLATE BEACH after 10 km from puri on puri konark marine road at balighai you can find an isolated lonely beach with almost no one on the beach very attractive for tourists.to reach this beach is two km from the marine drive road.you have to cross a forest to reach this beach which is full of wild animals like deers.a must watch beach IN PURI.
BELESWAR TEMPLE after 20 k m on the puri konark marine drive this a temple of lord shiva aside the sea beach a great spot for picnics.
KONARK the sun temple is exceptionally large architecture of kalinga architecture.the temple has lost its main strutcture but the remaining structure still shows the creativity of orissan artists.this temple has its own mystrious past which was constructed for the sun god by king narasingh deva 1.the structure of this temple is like a chariot of sun god.more information about sun temple:http://konark.nic.in/suntemple.htm.
you can go to konark by the puri konark marine drive road which is the shortest distance to konark from puri.its around 40 kms.
KONARK MUSEUMthere is a small museum near the konark temple where you can see collection of sculpture from the temple ruins.it remains open from 9 am to 5 pm except friday.
RAMACHANDI TEMPLE there is a temple towards the southwest of sun temple .this is said to be the temple of wife of sun god ramadevi.acording to some people this is the earlier temple where sun god was worshiped.
VISHNU TEMPLE a broken temple just behind the ramachandi temple is known as vishnu temple.it is said that it is the temple of lord vishnu.
KONARK MATH One monestary is located in south just close to the temple.there is no deity inside the math.there is a fire place where it is said the fire has been reserved undiscontinued from the begining of the math.
FESTIVALS YOU MUST SEE IN PURI
DOLAYATRA it is celebrated on the tenth day of falguna till the full full moon day.the representing deities are taken to a pendal outside the outside the wall of the main temple and special rituals are performed.
CHANDAN YATRA it is celebrated in the month of baisakha and continues for 42 days.the representive deities are brought to narendra tank,a water tank nearly at the middle of puri town,and they are worshiped on well decorated boats.
SNANA YATRA in this festival the main deities of puri jaganath temple are taken out of the temple and placed on the bathing pendal.then they are bathed with 108 pithers of water and takes a new look.for example the lord jaganath takes the shape like elephant.
RATH YATRA(CHARIOT FESTIVAL) THIS IS THE MOST SPLENDID WORLD FAMOUS FESTIVAL OF LORDS AT PURI JAGANATH TEMPLE.
HOW TO REACH PURI puri is well connected by road and by train to the bhubaneswar,the capital of orissa.by road it takes only 2 hours to reach puri and is around 65 kms away from bhubaneswar.the general cost of going puri from bhubaneswar in a local bus is around 25 rupees.you can also avail the facility of train to reach puri from the bhubaneswar.it also takes 2 hours to reach puri in a passenger train.and it costs around 13 rupees.but by express trains you will reach puri only in one and half hour.the general cost for express trains will be around 30 rupees.after reaching at the bus stand or at the railway station you must contact your host at puri or the hotels you are going to stay for transport facilities.some hotels provide free transport facility for its guests.
